Legacies and In memory
Legacies in your Will
Remembering the Sporting Memories Foundation in your Will is a special way to support older people living with Dementia, depression, and loneliness.
Leaving a legacy gift will enable the Foundation to continue its work with older people for many years to come. A gift to us helps achieve our vision that our older people will build friendships, connect across generations, and live health and active lives.
Your legacy gift will:
- Help to sustain Sporting Memories Clubs across the UK
- Train more volunteers to deliver Sporting Memories Clubs
- Provide more activities for Older People to engage in, either in their local community or online
- Create invaluable resources such as the weekly Sporting Pink to engage older people
These are just some of the ways in which a legacy gift can help support older people. Every legacy gift we receive makes a huge difference to and enables us to sustain our activities and reach more older people across the UK.
We understand that your first priority is providing for those you care about. However, if after you have done this and feel able to consider leaving a gift to the Foundation there are several ways you can do this:
- A pecuniary legacy – a specific sum as a gift to us e.g. £1,000.
- A residuary legacy – you can choose to leave a percentage of your estate, no matter how small e.g. 10%.
- A specific gift – you can leave us a gift such as a valuable piece of art or memorabilia which will help us to raise valuable funding towards our work.
What should I do now?
The Sporting Memories Foundation cannot provide legal advice. We recommend that you talk to your solicitor who will be able to help you with every aspect of leaving a gift in your Will. If you already have a Will and wish to leave a gift to the Sporting Memories Foundation, this is a simple process and can be done by writing a codicil. We recommend you speak to your solicitor before making or updating your Will.
Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07592 639056 for more information and detailed wording that your Solicitor can use in creating your legacy gift.
Complete Guide to Making a Will
The Sixth Degree Media Group have put together a Complete Guide to Making a Will which explains why a will is important and how it can protect your loved ones. It offers practical tips and advice on how to write a will and what to include, whether you need a will writer or a solicitor, frequently asked questions (FAQs) and common mistakes to avoid, and how a will is a great way to support a charity or help a cause that you care about. You can view the full guide by clicking here.
Gifts in Memory
Lots of families and friends decide to honour the life of a lost loved one by suggesting donations in lieu of giving flowers. These gifts are a special gesture that help further a Charity close to the family or loved one. There are many ways this can be done. Both Memory Giving and Just Giving offer a facility to create an on-line page.
We are registered as a charity with both of these sites so setting this up should be straightforward. The benefit of both is that the processing and payment is completed on your behalf via the platform and takes the pressure away from you or your family at a difficult time.
Memory Giving is a website where you can set up a giving page in memory of your lost one, they collect the money and then send it on to us with Gift Aid if people have chosen this. The Giving page is set up in five minutes for you. Their contact details are:
You can create a page on JustGiving, where you can tell the story of the person you're remembering using words, photos and video, and explain why you're raising money in their memory for the Sporting Memories Foundation.
Your friends and family can give to your page easily, safely and securely, wherever they are, whenever they want to. Together you can create a lasting tribute in memory of your loved one.
These donations are automatically sent on to the Sporting Memories Foundation.
If you would prefer to just send us a donation via cheque, please send a cheque made payable to ‘Sporting Memories Foundation’* along with a covering note or complete the In Memory Donation form below. Our address is:
