The Sporting Memories Foundation Scotland and Bowls Scotland – “Get Outdoors” Project

We are pleased to announce that we are working on a dementia-friendly outdoor bowls project in partnership with Bowls Scotland and a number of community-based outdoor bowling clubs across Scotland.

Funding has been provided by Life Changes Trust as part of their “Get Outdoors” funding stream:

We are working with five bowling clubs to help make them dementia-friendly and to encourage people living with dementia and their carers to either reconnect with a sport they once loved or to encourage others to try outdoor bowls for the first time.

John Kemp, Bowls Scotland Development Manager explained, “Through our Regional Development Officers, and Try Bowls programmes Bowls Scotland is committed to supporting inclusion work which will introduce new people to bowls, aid returning bowlers, and keep current bowlers active –  and we look forward to working with Sporting Memories Network to develop this project.”

Donna MacKey, Partnership Manager at The Sporting Memories Foundation Scotland, has planned a programme to run through the Summer of 2019 at locations initially in Fife and North Lanarkshire.
