The Sporting Memories Charter

The Sporting Memories Network (SMN) is a community interest company (CIC), the first of its kind dedicated to the development and use of sports reminiscence, inclusive physical activities and intergenerational activities to support isolated older people across the UK.

The SMN CIC is the umbrella to the regional Sporting Memories Foundations in England, Scotland and Wales. The Foundations support over 120 weekly Sporting Memories Clubs and other Sporting Memories Groups, engaging isolated older people living with long-term conditions such as dementia in activities such as sporting reminiscence and physical activities. These activities are delivered with the health and social impact of improving mental and physical well-being, reducing loneliness, and connecting people in the wider community.

As The SMN CIC we raise funds to recruit, train, mentor and manage volunteers to help run Sporting Memories Clubs and Groups with the ambition to increase the number of weekly activities available across the country, engagements in the clubs and, therefore, lives impacted for the better!

To do this, we must maintain the highest level of quality in our training and delivery of Sporting Memories Clubs and Groups. As SMN, we have developed our products, subscriptions models and Club and Group delivery to the best of our abilities while meeting the aspirations of our partners, patrons, sponsors, volunteers and members. All of these drive the principles behind why the team at SMN founded The SMN CIC. This is developed under the sound business planning of our team and ensuring continued improvement for The SMN CIC, Sporting Memories Foundations and their Sporting Memories Clubs and Groups.

This is our Sporting Memories Mission!

… is to effectively use sporting themes and deliver activities that build friendships, grow shared identities, connect generations, stimulate minds and extend active and healthy lives.

It is only by impressing upon our partners the importance of our founding principles and the need for them to live up to these principles that, as The SMN CIC and its extended networking of partners and supporters, will be thrive and grow.

The Sporting Memories Charter sets out the standards for how our staff, partners, patrons, volunteers and other stakeholders will participate and contribute.
