26 August 2021

Nikki and Paul, from Newcastle, are running the 2021 Great North Run half-marathon for Sporting Memories. Our Communications Manager Helen caught up with Nikki to find out more.

“I run with Wallsend Harriers and received an email from them about running for Sporting Memories. I roped in my husband Paul, then decided that I would sign up too. Once I saw that this year we could walk to the race from home and back again, I knew that would make life so much easier. This will be my second time running the Great North Run but this time we have two children!”

Nikki began running 12 years ago, when she turned 30. She met Paul while training for the Edinburgh marathon, while he was running for fun. Running and fundraising for Sporting Memories makes sense to Nikki and Paul.

"Paul is a mental health nurse, while my Nan lived with dementia. So the work of Sporting Memories resonates with us both and I’m really pleased to be raising funds for the charity’s work."

With just under three weeks to go, Nikki has just completed a trail half-marathon in preparation, and both Paul and Nikki have been increasing their weekend distances.

Please support Nikki and Paul. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a real difference to the work of Sporting Memories.

Our thanks to Paul and Nikki, and very best wishes from everyone at Sporting Memories for the big day!
