Welcome Dunfermline! New club opens at Abbeyview Bowling Club

Abbeyview launch

We were delighted to open our latest club in Scotland earlier this week, as we hosted our first ever session in Dunfermline at the Abbeyview Bowling Club.

The sessions will welcome adults from all backgrounds across Dunfermline and Fife to talk and reminisce about sport as well as keeping physically active.

The first session saw the club’s participants get to know each other by exploring their sporting passions and how sport had played an important role in their lives, including sharing their favourite sporting moments.

Using our bespoke resources, the group then played the ‘Spot the ball’ quizzes included in our Sporting Pink magazine series, followed by recollecting some historical sporting figures from Scotland through our Sporting Legends card-game.

A notable highlight from the opening session was that two participants discovered they had both previously worked at the Rosyth Dockyards and that the workers at the dockyard had a passion for playing sports such as football and squash!

Gary Waddell, Group Delivery and Practice Coordinator for Sporting Memories Scotland, was delighted with how the first session went and is now looking forward to how the club develops.

“With everything that has gone on recently it was great to get this club up and running in Dunfermline. We’ve already seen through our first session here that we can build connections with people in their local community, simply by creating a space and event where people can talk about sport and their lives.

“We know the impact just having regular sessions can have on the individuals and groups that come to our clubs, so I would urge anyone who has a passion for sport, or anyone who just wants to chat and meet new people, to come along.”
