Funding a trip to the home of Scottish Football for our Corstorphine club

Our Corstorphine club were delighted to receive a donation from the Johnston Smillie Charitable Trust, which has not only been granted to help support running the club, but to also allow members to enjoy great activities such as their recent visit to Hampden Park!

The club received a donation of £650 from the Trust which supports charities and other worthy causes across the Lothians, Fife, Borders and Central Belt of Scotland that make a difference to people within their local communities.

The funds will help to pay for the Corstorphine group's planned outings to various sports venues across the country alongside additional support from Corstorphine Community Centre.

Fiona Fitheridge, part of the team at Johnston Smillie, said: "When we heard what you do at Sporting Memories we didn't hesitate to offer the funds as we know it will make a huge difference to everyone involved. We have a lot of sports fans in our office so it’s a great fit for us."

The first planned trip took place on Thursday 17th November as the club went to the home of Scottish Football, Hampden Park, for a tour of the stadium and Hampden Park Museum.

It was the first time for most of the group visiting the stadium since it was redeveloped in the late 1990s and the group seemed to enjoy visiting the new-look Hampden in comparison to their youth. One such member of the group, Alex, reflected on a fun day in Glasgow.

"I really enjoyed going to Hampden as it's been over 40 years since I was last there; it brought back lots of fond memories for me of going to watch Scotland. It made it more special going with the guys from the Sporting Memories club."

There are also exciting plans underway for 2023 at the club, with trips to the British Golf Museum and Musselburgh Race Course scheduled for the group members to visit!
