There was gold in the air as both of our Fife clubs enjoyed the company of Olympic curler Debbie Knox MBE, who was part of the winning Team GB side at the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

We heard first-hand Debbie’s stories about how she got into curling, her journey to the Games and how it felt to see the final stone land the team a coveted gold medal. We were even let in on how the celebrations went down afterwards!

“It’s nice to look back and remember those wonderful moments. Even though it happened so long ago it’s great to share the memories that will live with me for the rest of my life.”

It is not uncommon to invite special guests along to talk about sport with our members and volunteers, share their special memories and answer their questions. What made Debbie extra special was that she featured in a ‘most iconic sporting moment’ group discussion a few weeks ago: do you remember where you watched Rhona Martin’s winning final stone?

To further entertain our members, we even got Debbie involved in our regular ‘Come Dine with Me’ feature where we found out her ideal dinner guests would be Sir Chris Hoy, Princess Anne and Sir Steve Redgrave. Quite the sporting trio to entertain!

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed Debbie’s Olympic tales, providing a real boost and energy whilst we continue to meet virtually. Our online clubs run every week and we welcome any sports fan along to talk about sport with us.

“It was great listening to a real-life Olympic Champion; very inspirational!”
