Sporting Memories Network (SMN) is a social enterprise like no other. There to support and engage with older people (50+) living with dementia, have mental health issues or are socially isolated through reminiscence of sporting events. By sharing memories of sporting moments however big or small, people are instantly connected, reawakening thoughts feelings and times that would have otherwise been undiscovered all through a passion for sport. Clubs embrace the chance to undertake physical activities including boccia and new age kurling proving that everyone can take part no matter their age or condition.

In September 2019, SMN was awarded funding from a joint funding initiative between Comic Relief and the Greater London Authority to deliver a project to support the aim of improving mental and physical health by enabling the adoption of healthy and active lifestyles with members of the BAME community in London working alongside partners.

The project will create 6 new weekly volunteer led Sporting Memories clubs over the next two years, recruit volunteers to run our weekly sessions, hold 4 London Together Games for people from different backgrounds and cultures to come together in a wider setting and enjoy Sporting Memories and connect to other members of clubs and train young people from across schools and colleges, to facilitate reminiscence sessions to deliver interviews with older people and support the London Together Games events.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and personable individual to join the team and be embedded in the local area working closely with partners. You will be passionate about being part of a growing organisation at the forefront of innovative techniques to benefit older people, particularly those at risk of isolation or who are lonely, those living with dementia or memory problems and people who have experienced depression.  Experience of working with members of the BAME community and an understanding of London is preferable. You will be expected to think creatively and you should be able to multi task and prioritise your workload accordingly. A background in health or social care and a love of sport is preferable but not essential.
