I'm running the Great North Run for the Sporting Memories Foundation for two reasons close to my heart!

The first is my Grandad John who sadly passed away in 2016 and the second is my Nan Pam who passed in 2017. They were quite simply the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. Grandad was a funny man, he always made me laugh. He was a farmer, multiple ploughing champion and loved a game of Snooker. Nan was a stunning cook, always making meals from what appeared to be nothing welcoming loads of people to her house, she was also a fantastic artist. Both were kind and caring and above all else to me, my Grandparents. Their later years were effected by dementia, in Grandads case quite formally whilst my Nan was never diagnosed, she showed many signs.

I'm hoping that doing this run will do something towards their memory, it has certainly made me think of them during my training and I'm sure they'll be in my mind to cheer me on at the Great North Run.

The Sporting Memories Foundation are a great charity, their work helps people to remember things and speak about them, two of the most powerful things we can do as human beings. Their work to continue this for as long as possible in people's lives is truly fantastic and I hope to raise to help them do what they do best and provide me with another Sporting Memory to tell.
