We are delighted to reveal Terry Butcher as a Patron of The Sporting Memories Foundation
Terry Butcher was the mainstay of the centre of England’s defence throughout the 1980s, culminating in a lead role in his third World Cup finals at Italia 90.

At club level, Butcher’s combative defending was integral in a golden era for Ipswich Town, winning the UEFA Cup in 1981 and coming so close to other major honours on several other occasions.
Butcher was then signed by Graeme Souness for Rangers in 1986, at the start of the Ibrox club’s revival – winning numerous trophies before taking on his first managerial role at Coventry City towards the end of 1990.
Butcher has gone on to manage a number of clubs as well as enjoying a long career in the media.
His fearless approach to the game – encapsulated by a bloodied but not bowed performance against Sweden in a World Cup qualifier in 1989 – has ensured his place as one of England’s greatest defenders of all-time.
