The Memories Weekend is an opportunity for clubs, players and intergenerational fans to celebrate the rich history and heritage of sport in Wales, whilst raising awareness of three of the biggest challenges facing our society: depression, loneliness and dementia.

The Sporting Memories Foundation is delighted to launch the first ever Welsh Memories Weekend on the 21st and 22nd September 2019. We're calling for sports fans of all ages to share their favourite memories of their first game. #MyFirstGame
The Rugby World Cup: A Tonic For Mental Health and Dementia

The NHS and Sporting Memories say watching the sport can actually be good for your mental health and wellbeing.
Sporting Memories, which helps older people recall memories of watching or playing sport, are encouraging older sports fans and those with dementia to relive historic matches like England’s 2003 final in Australia, New Zealand’s huge 64 point win in the first ever world cup match in 1987, or even the last ever five nations 0-0 draw - between Ireland and England in 1963

Supporting Former Footballers Living With Dementia

Steve Elliott celebrated his 60th birthday in September. A former professional footballer, Steve started his career at Nottingham Forest after signing apprentice forms with Brian Clough and later signed professional forms at the age of 18.

We work in partnership with organisations and community venues, including sports clubs, community hubs, sheltered housing, care homes and hospitals to run both Sporting Memories Clubs and one-to-one activities.

The project will work across Cardiff, Newport, Vale of Glamorgan, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Rhondda Cynon Taff and we are looking for applicants that will be based in any one of these areas.

Whilst we know the benefits of socialising and attending the weekly clubs, one to one reminiscing can also be an enjoyable and beneficial activity

Sporting Memories and British Legion Join Forces

Galanos House. A Royal British Legion Care Home in Warwickshire has become the latest partner of Sporting Memories.
"Using the wealth of resources from Sporting Memories has provided a springboard for awakening memories, we have been able to use the sporting themes in our Men’s Club, which has proved really popular and has even stirred them to get up out of their chairs to have a go". Read more
