Scotland's Double Act

A love for Formula 1 racing brought them together, and now husband and wife team Graeme and Joanne are sharing their passion for the sport with Sporting Memories members every week. Whether it's reporting back about a recent Grand Prix win or sharing their travel tales to their favourite race circuit destination Monaco, we are thrilled to have such passionate sports fans as part of the Sporting Memories volunteer team.

Prior to lockdown the couple were supporting one of our newest Clubs in Edinburgh and have been instrumental in keeping the members together during lockdown restrictions. Graeme would make weekly check in calls and managed to encourage everyone to come together in a weekly virtual club which we have been running successfully since November 2020. Every week they present our 'Sports Round-Up' feature looking at the sports news stories making the headlines that past week whilst also entertaining us with the unfamiliar sporting events we may not have read about.

Graeme says: "We both love talking about sport, especially Formula One, and it's great to share that passion with our members and volunteers. It's been difficult during Covid but the weekly Zooms have helped us stay in touch as well as meet other Sporting Memories volunteers that we might not have bumped into in a face-to-face setting. We have a running theme on our Zoom calls where we name ourselves after famous double acts as I think that's what we are now – a great double act!"

Joanne says: "When Graeme first signed up to volunteer with Sporting Memories I was still working, but now I'm retired I'm excited to throw myself into volunteering and I think that we make a good team!"

The pair are looking forward to getting back and supporting the restart of our face-to-face Clubs but in the meantime, they will continue to support our virtual clubs and entertain us with their unique take on the sporting world. Thank you Graeme and Joanne.
