3 December 2020

Friday 3 December marked the start of the #TalkAboutSport Weekend Wales. What better way to start than with one of our inter-continental Get Togethers? And some very special guests.

Our online Great Wales Get Together was hosted by Dragons Rugby and Ospreys Rugby. Sporting Memories members, volunteers and others came together from Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, England, Ireland and, of course, Wales – to talk about sport and look back at special moments. As always, there was a hotly contested quiz and a spot of exercise.

Our Get Together also marked the official 'Great Winter Get Together' (even if we did start a little early!), which runs from December 15 until January 18, with this year's theme being facing loneliness together and building connections.

As for all our Get Togethers, we started with a song. Sporting Memories Wales member Norman sang the Wales national anthem, 'Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau', which translates to 'Land of my fathers' – a truly uplifting moment.

Guests from the world of Welsh sport

The Get Together was followed by "Sporting Memories Featuring..." hosted by Dr Andrew Hignell with special guests Welsh former professional footballers John Relish and Stuart Bell, Welsh professional golfer Stuart Manley, and professional footballer and Wales' most-capped player, Jessica Fishlock MBE. Our thanks to all out guests, to Andrew for hosting our panel, and to everyone who joined us and asked questions.

Jess Fishlock was unable to join us on the day, but recorded a very special interview the evening before.
