On 25 January, Sporting Memories Patron Alastair Hignell CBE and the UK's number 1 crossword setter John Halpern will be online with a live audience to create a cryptic cricket crossword – with your help.

The online event, which invites donations, is taking place in aid of Sporting Memories. Join John Halpern and Alastair Hignell by registering for the event. Suggest words during the event, help create clues and find out how a top crossword setter (the Financial Times, the Times, the Independent, the Telegraph, the Sunday Telegraph – and perhaps most famously for The Guardian under the pseudonym 'Paul') reveals the secrets to creating the very best cryptic crossword.

Here's one of John's crosswords (under his pseudonym Paul), from The Guardian, 7 January 2021.

As Stephen Moss from The Guardian says: "John Halpern generates waves of love among crossword fans."

And in the words of a crossword fan: "Fabulous company, great fun and a freshly-baked cryptic – what's not to like?"

Meanwhile, John's guest and former England rugby international, county cricketer, BBC broadcaster and award-winning author – and Sporting Memories Patron – Alastair Hignell CBE needs little introduction.

Our heartfelt thanks to John Halpern for creating and hosting the event in aid of Sporting Memories, and to Alastair Hignell for being his guest for the evening.

We look forward to seeing you online!
