The Award acknowledges how we have adapted to the challenges presented by lockdown measures and how Sporting Memories continues to support members and volunteers to stay connected via weekly online clubs and telephone circles.

Chief Operating Officer Maurice Donohue says: "I’m proud of the nomination, which took me by surprise. I don’t know who put us forward! It shines a light on the work that the volunteers and staff have done throughout lockdown where they have helped to reinvent the organisation. Everything we do is trying to reach out to the community and older sports fans, so to receive a nomination like this is very humbling.”

Recognising all of the nominees, Provost William Hendrie said: "I am so thankful to our residents who took the time to highlight these exceptional people for an award. Every nomination we received is worthy which made choosing the finalists a very difficult task.”

We want to extend our good wishes to the other finalists in the Sports Champion category, Vale FC Coach Ross Young and Scotland Under-19 footballer Rebecca McAllister. The winner will be announced virtually later this year.
