Former SFA Referee and FIFA Head of Refereeing tells us about being a volunteer with Sporting Memories

How did you find out about Sporting Memories?

“I saw the TV report that took place at one of the groups and followed it up from there.”

What made you think about volunteering?

“I had been looking to volunteer in some way and when I saw Sporting Memories on TV it seemed like a good way to do so with my background in sport.”

Where was the first group that you attended?

“I attend the club at Ravens Court in Motherwell.”

How did you learn about the workings of a group?

“By observing the club when I started going, I also used my background from being a teacher to help me as I was used to group situations.”

What have you done that has worked well in a group?

“I bring my projector to use at the club which opens up a lot of opportunities like using YouTube clips from games that some of the members may have attended or from old TV shows. It helps the members to feel a part of the club and to interact with each other.”
