Support us Fundraise Fundraising stories Captain's Charity raises £5,561 2nd April 2019 A Captain’s Lasting Memories Sandburn Hall Golf Club Captain, Gerry MacCrory, handed over a whopping cheque for £5561 to The Sporting Memories Foundation earlier today. Gerry’s one-year captaincy finished at the end of March and he is delighted to make the donation to his chosen charity. Gerry and other members raised the funds by hosting auctions, quizzes, a Captain’s Club and numerous other events throughout the year. Gerry said “I am thrilled to be able to make this donation on behalf of Sandburn Hall Golf Club. It is the largest amount ever raised for a single charity by the club and we are hoping it will make a big difference to people in the area living with dementia, depression or loneliness through sport reminiscence or activity.” £1,000 of the total was also a very kind donation from local company Inseto (UK) Ltd. Each year The Sandburn Hall Golf Captain selects a charity to support and Susie Brindley, Chief Operating Officer for The Sporting Memories Foundation said “With the money raised by Gerry and the members at the Golf Club, we will be able to set up and fund two clubs that will run weekly for a full year, benefitting many people. As a charity, donations like this make a massive impact and are hugely appreciated.” “There are presently over 110 Sporting Memories Clubs and Groups running in England, Scotland and Wales, with over 1,200 members attending. In 2018, there were 57,600 individual attendances recorded by our volunteers, staff and partners who delivered sporting memories sessions. Attendee ages ranged from 48 years old to 97 years old. Sporting Memories clubs are provided free of charge to members.” £100 trains a volunteer to help at a Sporting Memories Club £50 helps provide more sports equipment to a Sporting Memories Club £30 buys a pack of Replay Sporting Memories reminiscence cards for a club £20 provides a month's supply of the weekly Sporting Pink newspaper for a club £10 helps recruit more volunteers £5 helps pay a volunteer's travel to run a club James Hogg, managing director, says “our philosophy at Sandburn Hall is to be open and welcoming to all golfers, whether they're just starting out in the game or have been playing for many years.
