Lawrence Tomlinson

Lawrence TomlinsonWe are delighted to add Lawrence Tomlinson, Chairman of Ginetta Cars and the LNT Group as a supporter of the Sporting Memories Network.

Lawrence grew up in Batley, West Yorkshire; where he attended the local grammar school before going on to pursue his love of engineering at Huddersfield College. Wellman Bibby spotted his clear potential and sponsored an engineering degree at Bradford University.

With a background in engineering, it is no surprise that Lawrence has a real passion for car design and motor-racing.

Ginetta has been building British road and race cars since 1958 - but since its purchase by LNT Group in 2005, the company has grown to become one of the most significant players on the global motorsport scene. With racing pedigree throughout the business; Lawrence/Team LNT and Ginetta have raced at Le Mans with Lawrence himself winning the GT2 class at Le Mans 2006 in a Panoz Esperante. Using his skills as a businessman, engineer and racing driver Lawrence Tomlinson has managed to not only build race cars and championships to rival the very best in motorsport, but has launched 2 road cars, the G40R and The G60. With the latter being named by AutoCar as "Britain's new 911".

Ginetta now boasts three of its own single marque championships; Ginetta Junior Championship, Ginetta Challenge and Ginetta GT Supercup, featuring over 70 cars on their respective grids.

Lawrence's business, entrepreneurial and engineering achievements were recognised in 2011 when he was awarded two separate honorary doctorates by Yorkshire universities. 2011 also saw Lawrence being announced as Yorkshire Director of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and recognised as one of the top 10 most influential leaders within the healthcare industry. In 2012, the Great British Care Awards recognised his life time commitment to the sector by awarding him the National "Outstanding Contribution to Social Care" Award.

Away from the office Lawrence enjoys spending time with his wife and their four children at their home in Harrogate. He is also a keen sportsman and as well as motorsport also enjoys golf and a variety of water-sports.
