The search is on to find the 50 greatest Leeds sporting legends - to help boost the memory of older people.

From John Charles to Peter Lorimer, sports fans are being asked to nominate their all-time heroes.

They will be used in a scheme being run in Leeds care homes using sport memories to spark the interest of people with dementia.

Tony Jameson-Allen, from the Sporting Memories Network, said: "Legends don't have to have been born in the city, but to have made their mark on its rich sporting heritage.

"John Charles, John Holmes and Fred Trueman are likely to be nailed on certainties to appear along with Beryl Burton, Geoff Boycott and Billy Bremner, but it's down to the public of Leeds to decide who makes the cut."

Social enterprise Sporting Memories Network started its scheme in Leeds earlier this year, now being run in 15 care homes.
