Sporting memories – celebrating World Alzheimer’s Day 21 September 2013

Tony Jameson-Allen the co-founding director of Sporting Memories Network CIC, discusses World Alzheimer’s Day and how sport can be used to help.

The passion of watching sporting heroes, favourite teams or participating in our chosen sports leads to a lifetime of memories. And it is through recalling these stand out moments that the mental and physical well-being of people with Alzheimer’s can be greatly improved. Sporting Memories Network is establishing projects which see groups of older sports fans using archive images of sport, memorabilia and reports to trigger memories of participants – which in turn leads to lively debates and conversations about favourite matches, events and teams.
