Leeds: Sports memories that are a game changer

At a launch event at Leeds Civic Hall yesterday, former Yorkshire cricketer Geoff Cope was among the attendees along with representatives from football clubs including Everton, Wolves and Grimsby Town.

Sandie Keene, director of adult social services at Leeds City Council, said she thought the scheme was "fantastic".

"We know from evidence that if we can keep people's memories and their brains well-developed, the progress of the disease can be slowed," she added.

Coun Adam Ogilvie, executive member for adult social care at Leeds City Council, said he was very pleased: "What the pilot has showed is just how powerful the use of reminiscence is as means of engaging and involving people with dementia."
