The Prime Minister, David Cameron writes "As Prime Minister, I was lucky enough to attend a number of events at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games and my memories of cheering on our competitors will, I hope, remain with me forever. This is the very reason that initiatives such as the Sporting Memories Network are so valuable and I thank you for your work in this area......" The Guide

Why we have been established

Watch the four minute video of #BillsStory to see the remarkable story of one gentleman who lived with dementia .

Norman Lamb, Minister of State for Care and Support "I applaud the pioneering work of the Sporting Memories Network and Everton in the Community in raising awareness of dementia through the first Premier League Football Memories Game. This is a brilliant initiative. Football clubs and other sporting organisations touch many people during their day-to-day lives and they can play an extremely valuable role in supporting people with dementia and helping to create dementia-friendly communities."

Leeds Care Homes Project - Celebrating the rich sporting heritage of the Leeds Area assisting the city's older population living in care.

Leeds Project Supporters

The Sporting Memories Network worked with Care Homes across Leeds to test out an innovative approach to reminiscence therapy, which looked back at the city's rich sporting heritage.

The project, funded by Skills for Care Workforce Development Innovation Fund was supported by Leeds City Council, NHS Airedale, Bradford and Leeds and Leeds Care Association.

Images were central to the project, and we were delighted to receive pledges of support & assistance in the work from Leeds United Foundation, Leeds Rugby Foundation, Yorkshire Cricket Foundation, Ginetta Cars and Harewood Hillclimb along with Historypin and West Yorkshire Archive Services.
